In 2008, the University planned to demolish the building housing the remodeled bookstore to make way for a new Student Center. TR,i was once again called on for the design of the new bookstore. Since shelving and retail fixtures were up to date, care was taken to plan for their reuse in the new bookstore’s design. As the first phase of a student center replacement, the greatly enlarged campus bookstore was envisioned as a centerpiece for campus life. The new 30,000 sf multi-level bookstore was envisioned to be a combination of a boutique style retail environment, a comfortable place to read and chat, and features a technology resource outlet with a cutting edge aesthetic. While accommodating the necessary retailing functions, the design showcases the University’s trademark through the use of school colors, textured materials emulating the tiger mascot, and historic graphic images.
